Proudly Overbuilt—Storm Safe Shelters

April 7, 2022

For years, our team at Homes by Taber has been creating expertly crafted homes throughout the Oklahoma area, and with our Proudly Overbuilt standard, there are dozens of incredible features that we incorporate into all of our homes that you will not find with other builders. One feature that we're most proud of is definitely our Storm Safe Shelters. As a matter of fact, it’s what spurred our list of Proudly Overbuilt included features and why we are confident telling home shoppers to bring a Dare to Compare list with them while they shop around.

In the state of Oklahoma, tornado season is taken seriously, and with that notion in mind, Homes by Taber knew that we needed to be doing more within our homes to ensure the safety of our homeowners. A storm shelter has been an included feature in every single home we've built for years, and it's not a feature our team takes lightly. Until storm shelters are seen as a necessary addition to all homes throughout the area, we will keep pushing to ensure that our customers always have a safe place to retreat and give them peace of mind regarding their loved one's safety during tornado season.

Tornado season in Oklahoma

Although there is a typical time period during the year that we usually refer to as tornado season, the truth of the matter is that the weather can be unpredictable at times. Although our famous Oklahoma meteorologists are superb in giving residents a heads up when severe weather is expected, it’s something Oklahomans should be prepared for at any given time.

Typically, the months of May and June are when the majority of tornadoes present themselves throughout our state, known as the severe season. As we've learned in previous years, the secondary severe weather season from October through December can sometimes see a significant uptick in tornadoes. With a broad timeline of severe weather to watch out for, the only certainty is that we always need to be prepared for severe weather to hit.

Working with Storm Safe Shelters

At Homes by Taber, our team is laser focused on building our customers the homes they've always dreamed of having with safety features as a standard, not an upgrade! The safety features we include in our homes are just as crucial to the overall home build as the quality and design aspects we offer.

When it comes to the standard of new construction homes throughout Oklahoma, our team has always gone above and beyond to set the tone for builders throughout our state. Working with Storm Safe Shelters, a company that is native to the Oklahoma City area and has allowed Homes by Taber to be the largest purchaser of storm shelters in the nation, each product is rigorously tested at the National Wind Institute in order to verify that it can withstand the winds of an EF-5 storm.

Even though tornados are not as common throughout the state as other storms, providing a storm shelter in every home we build will help guarantee our homeowners’ safety should they experience such an encounter.

Creating our own standard

Many builders offer the chance to upgrade and add a storm shelter to their homes, but at Homes by Taber, we know that safety cannot just be an added feature for our customers. It needs to be included. All of our homes come with a Storm Safe Shelter built into every garage floor, and the price is always included within the overall Proudly Overbuilt price of the home; not to mention, each storm shelter comes with a lifetime warranty from Storm Safe. Other builders may not feel that adding this option is the best return on investment, but in our minds, there is no better way to finish out a home build than by being able to assure our customers that their home was built with their safety top of mind.

Throughout Oklahoma, the chances of experiencing harsh weather and tornadoes are elevated, and the safety of your family should never be in question. By having these storm shelters included in all of our builds, we are able to give our customers the peace of mind they deserve when it comes to buying a new construction home throughout the OKC area. As members of the communities we build in, our team goes into each home build knowing that the work we do is inherently important to keeping our customers safe long after we hand over the keys.

With new communities being built throughout the Tulsa and OKC areas, our promise to bring exceptionally built homes to the state of Oklahoma is not slowing down anytime soon. We will continue to proudly display that reputation as our business grows.

At Homes by Taber, our company has grown exponentially since beginning in 2000 due to the fact that our customer's safety and satisfaction are always our top priority throughout each of our builds. We've been able to continuously grow this company due to the assurance we can give our customers that the high standards they expect from their new construction home will be exceeded when they choose to work with our team of professionals—and our storm safe shelters further prove this fact.
