May 4, 2022

At Homes by Taber, we carefully select only the best locations throughout the areas of Oklahoma City and Tulsa for the amazing communities and remarkable homes that we build—and the charming town of Mustang, Oklahoma is no exception, where several of our incredible new-home communities reside. Residents of these communities love their forever homes in their tight-knit neighborhoods while also enjoying the convenience, beauty and appeal of Mustang and everything the town has to offer year-round—especially during the warmer months. With the season of summer rolling in fast, our team at Homes by Taber wanted to highlight some of the phenomenal warm-weather activities that Mustang provides for its residents—from unique local events to exciting outdoor entertainment and everything in between.

Enjoy the incredible outdoors

With higher temperatures comes a greater need to get out and enjoy the fresh air while taking in the beautiful scenery—and conveniently, the town of Mustang has plenty of opportunities to fulfill that need. Residents of Mustang love to browse the mile-long walking trail at Elliott Park while admiring the wildlife and natural beauty, as well as making frequent trips to Wild Horse Park—where you can find 158 acres of gorgeous hiking or biking trails, two fun-filled playgrounds and all sorts of amenities and attractions. Wild Horse Park also boasts a spacious dog park, state-of–the-art baseball and softball fields, a large pond that’s perfect for fishing and a massive aquatic center that offers a number of interactive water structures, swimming lessons and fun events for residents to appreciate in the hot summer heat. Chisholm Trail Park is yet another hot spot for beautiful trails and stunning scenery, with miles of nature to see and an annual July 4th Freedom Festival that residents of Mustang love to attend, located just a few miles away in the town of Yukon. Whether you prefer scenic hiking and biking trails at any of the parks, watching local sporting events at the fields or cooling off in the massive pool at the aquatic center—there’s something for everyone to love when it comes to outdoor adventures during the summers in Mustang.

Endless summer activities

In addition to the amazing outdoor activities that Mustang has to offer to its residents, there are an abundance of other opportunities to enjoy the summer weather throughout the picturesque town. The town of Mustang features outstanding restaurants, cafes and bars—some containing roomy outdoor spaces to indulge in your food or drink while taking in the delightful summer air, such as the Mustang staple of Wild Hero Coffee Co., where you can find an array of iced lattes and frozen treats, as well as delicious sandwiches and decadent pastries. Visit any of Mustang’s small-town restaurants—from Tex-Mex and burgers to bar food and pizza—then stop by Braum’s Ice Cream or Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt for a mouthwatering way to cool off from the summer heat.

If you’re into summertime farmer’s markets with fresh fruits and vegetables that are locally grown, Mustang has a few interactive experiences to choose from that the whole family can get excited about. Growing Payne’s Farmer’s Market is open every weekend during the summer, where you can scan through the vast offerings of fruits and vegetables and participate in the kid-friendly events that occur throughout the warmer months, including a Mother’s Day Mayhem and a Seed & Book Swap. Wildhorse Gardens & Market is another Mustang farmer’s market that boasts incredible fruits and vegetables, gorgeous plants and flowers, and a wide variety of local vendors and volunteer opportunities—opening in early June this year and occurring on Saturdays and Wednesdays. It’s also a must to stop by Agape House Berry Farm this summer, where you can get an exclusive look at the growing process for summer berries and the little ones can gain an amazing learning experience while feasting on their fresh berries in the open-air barn.

Amazing festivals and events

On top of the wide range of fantastic entertainment that is perfect for the summertime, the city of Mustang is also known for its small-town festivals and events that are held each summer. For the car enthusiasts and those who appreciate unique vehicles, Mustang is the perfect place to find everything you’re looking for—including the Thursday Night Cruisers Car Show, which is held annually at The Bridge Church, this year on June 11, and features local food vendors and an awards ceremony. Browse amazing cars, trucks, SUVs and motorcycles—and mark your calendars to also attend the Oklahoma Mustang Club Stampede Car Show in September to find an array of new or vintage mustangs, live music and family fun. People from all over the area come to discover the spectacular cars and take in the ambiance and atmosphere that both of these renowned car shows provide to residents, and trust us—you won’t want to miss out on the car extravaganzas in Mustang this summer.

For those who enjoy outstanding food, exceptional local vendors, impressive rodeos, amusing games and more—be sure to save the date for Mustang Western Days, hosted throughout the streets of downtown Mustang at the end of the summer in September. The two-day event is an exciting Mustang tradition, bringing around 30,000 people to the charming town every year for the ultimate community gathering that won’t be missed by anyone within a 20-mile radius. In addition to the annual festivities and incredible gatherings in Mustang, the town’s Parks and Recreation consistently hosts community-centered events throughout the summer season that the entire family can appreciate, including Pickleball, Volleyball, Food Truck Fridays, Hip-Hop Nights and more.
